Workshops

ExtraOrdinary Arts
      Connecting Community
Through Creative Expression

An Inclusive Expressive Arts Program
Supporting individuals with differing needs and abilities within community settings. I use various expressive arts methods to promote social communication skills, encourage critical thinking, and foster emotional and physical wellbeing.
This program is not designed to take the place of counseling! However, many of the methods I use are therapeutic in nature.

Workshops
Each class is a bit different and unique!
Just like the folks I serve, workshops can vary in time, materials and cost. Workshops are meant to include families, friends or personal support/ caregivers. I firmly believe that passion has no limitation.
    ★  Please feel free to ask about special rates or group discounts.
    ★  Just a few examples of the types of workshops I offer:

Altered Books

$ 35.00
An Altered Book is a piece of mixed media artwork featuring an old book that has had new life breathed into it.  Participants in this workshop will cut, tear, glue, paint, collage, stamp, fold and adorn the pages. Participants can work within a theme or work randomly building skills as they go.

Mask Making

$20.00- 50.00 depending on time and materials
Making masks is not just for Halloween! Masks can be part of learning about animals, history, story telling, cultures or just an excuse for dressing up and having fun! I’ve taught a variety of mask making techniques including direct applied plaster casting, using natural materials, and even a simple plastic mask transformed by painting, gluing or decorating.

Visual Poetry

$ 15.00
This workshop combines music, movement and art making. It’s a fun way to learn new vocabulary, make friends and come home with an original piece of art.

Collage/ mixed media

$15.00
Collage is a great way to try out different textures and techniques. From simple to complex, collage work can turn into calendars, postcards and more.

Music, Movement and Meditation

15.00
Drums, shakers, and a rainbow of colorful props - This forty- five minute class is fun for all ages and abilities.
I also enjoy sharing my professional experience with parents, educators and other professionals! Please ask about presentations for your organization.

Testimonials

Diane is a kind and gentle person whose creativity and cheerfulness are matched only by her inspiring workshops.
Paula Johnson, Unitarian Universalist Association

She has this knack for turning any materials that happen to be within arm’s reach into a work of art.
David Bragi, author, mentor

Diane blended strengths-based creative engagement with advocacy. For young ones, opportunities to use color, mixed media, forms to engage a sense of delight, and music to develop fine-motor skills, gross-motor skills, and social competencies. The expressive arts experiences for teens and adults also enhanced social competencies, sense of belonging, and self- confidence.
Ann Johnson, Prescott College Graduate Mentor, Humanities: Expressive Arts
